Why do we use "y" when writing numbers such as 21 or 66?
Rules: When writing numbers such as 21, 35, 66, etc. use "y" which means "and." So when writing numbers such as "twenty-one" use the word "y" to connect the words together.

65 is written as - sesenta y cinco
57 is written as - cincuenta y siete

*So when you write numbers such as those above, you use the word "y" between the tens and ones column.

Write the word 20: cincuenta
Write the word and: y
Write the number after: dos
veinte+y+uno= cincuenta y
*Notice how the numbers in the 20's range, it is written differently then other numbers.
*Note that number 22 and 23 and 26 has an accent.

21 veintiuno
22 veintidós
23 veintitrés
24 veinticuatro
25 veinticinco
26 veintiséis
27 veintisiete
28 veintiocho
29 veintinueve

Do you know why all the numbers of the 20's is writen (veinti)?

*the reason all the numbers that start veinti is because the number 20 is the first number of the 20's and also the way it's spelled (veinte).

Numbers 100 to 1000

100 cien
200 doscientos-as
300 trescientos-as
400 cuatocientos-as
500 quinientos-as
600 seiscientos-as
700 setecientos-as
800 ochocientos-as
900 novecientos-as
1000 mil *(not un mil)*

*When writing numbers like "108", you do not have to use the word "y" and you also have to add the ending "to" to the word "cien."

*Or there is another way to form the 100's number.

101: ciento uno (100/ceinto+1/uno)=(ciento uno)
127: ciento veintisiete (100/ciento+27/veintisiete)=(ciento veintisiete)

When writing larger numbers in Spanish, do we use a comma or a decimal?
*The way numbers are written in Spanish are different from English when you need to use a comma. So if you were to write the number "1,000" in Spanish it would be written this way instead: "1.000" So in the Spanish way, a comma means a decimal.

104 ciento cuatro
1,024 is written as - 1.024 in Spanish

The spanish number like the hundreds are masculine and femine for to.

*doscientas libros (200 books-masculine noun)
*doscientas plumas (200 pens-feminine noun)
